One of these years I'll get around to doing a proper read of a Jackson best novel ballot; it's not an area of the field I know in great depth, and whatever qualms I have about a single panel of judges attempting to cover a wide range of categories (they can't possibly have read everything) are outweighed by the fact that in its few years the award has produced a very respectable roster of winners. Not, I fear, this year, because I have too many other reading commitments. But one of these years.
