First of all this month, some congratulations. Two SH stories, Claire Humphrey's "Nightfall in the Scent Garden", and Alex Dally MacFarlane's "Feed Me the Bones of Our Saints", have been picked up for Heiresses of Russ 2013 -- you can see the full table of contents here, which also includes stories by Brit and Julia, and a bunch of other names you may recognise as well. Congratulations also to all the Rhysling Award Candidates, which from SH include Gwynne Garfinkle's "bell, book, candle", Megan Arkenberg's "Sister Philomela Heard the Voices of Angels" and Alexandra Seidel's Give Me Pluto" in Short Poem, and Rose Lemberg's "Between the Mountain and the Moon" and Mike Allen's "Carrington's Ferry" in Long Poem.
On to new stories. Not quite out yet, but hitting shelves in the next couple of weeks is The Other Half of the Sky, edited by Athena Andreadis for Candlemark & Gleam, and including stories by Vandana Singh, Nisi Shawl, Ken Liu and Kelly Jennings, among others. Vandana Singh also has a new story, "With Fate Conspire", out now in Solaris Rising 2, edited by Ian Whates. An Owomoyela has a new story, "In Metal, In Bone" at Eclipse Online. Genevieve Valentine has new stories in Clarkesworld ("86, 87, 88, 89") and Tor.com ("Terrain"). Tom Doyle's "Pythian Games" is up at Daily Science Fiction. Ada Hoffman's Machine of Death 2 story "Blue Fever" was released early as a Kickstarter bonus when donations to the MoD card game reached $325,000. Carmen Maria Machado has an erotic novella out: Five Stages of Grief. Maria Deira has a flash fiction, "Stain", in Bestiary: The Best of a Semi-Decade of A capella Zoo, ed. Gina Ochsner. James D. Dorr's story "Dead Girls, Dying Girls" is in So It Goes, a Kurt Vonnegut tribute anthology from Perpetual Motion Publishing. And Genevieve Williams co-wrote and has a voice in a new podcast, The Hermes and Hekate Road Show, for which you can check out the first episode here.
Liz Argall has a new story, "Mermaid's Hook" in the latest Apex, which also features work by Tim Pratt and William Alexander. And the latest Ideomancer is full of work by SH contributors, including fiction by Gabriel Murray, Sunny Moraine and Leah Thomas, reviews by Liz Bourke, and poetry by David Kopaska-Merkel, Megan Arkenberg, Michele Bannister and Alexandra Seidel.
Moving on to new poetry proper: Virginia M. Mohlere's "Blodeuwedd" is in the March 2013 issue of Niteblade. F.J. Bergmann's "Retrograde" is in the latest Storm Cellar. Sara Norja has two poems in issue 11 of Curio "Silver and Gold" and "Man Playing Piazzolla", while Andrew Kozma has three poems at Kenyon Review Online. David K. Kopaska-Merkel has a new collection, Luminous Worlds, out from Dark Regions Press, while Jeannine Hall Gailey's collection Unexplained Fevers is out from New Binary Press. Elizabeth Barrette's March Poetry Fishbowl focused on houses and homes. And Bruce Boston is interviewed about upcoming projects at Amazing Stories.
What about other books? Lawrence Schimel has two new books out this month: Volando Cometas, a non-speculative children's book in Spanish about women and HIV, and Deleted Names, a new poetry collection in English (for adults).
And in non-fiction and essays, Orrin Grey has written an introduction to an edition of JB Priestley's Benighted from Valancourt Books. Abigail Nussbaum continues her exploration of the Culture with thoughts on Look to Windward by Iain M. Banks. Carmen Machado reviews Karen Russell's Vampires in the Lemon Grove at the LA Review of Books. And Martin Lewis has blogged about the shortlist for this year's BSFA Short Fiction Award, announced this evening.
