This house I built

with its painstaking

concrete masonry,

cell upon cell,

irrevocably ages,

silvering, softening.

Regular maintenance

takes longer now

and the nightly ritual

washings and lockings

consume me.

What is fortune

among fading flowers?

What is wisdom

when the wind howls?

Is it the wind?
