Hey, I liked this! A nice midwestern take on one of my favorite tropes.

Thanks, Marguerite!
(Spoilers below -- run away now if you haven't read the story and you hate spoilers.)
In a way, I owe this story to Howard Waldrop. I was at Rio Hondo with him in 2004 when he workshopped "The Wolf Man of Alcatraz". One of the things he said he was trying to do in that story was write a werewolf story where the werewolf was off-stage. The idea stuck with me until I ended up doing this variation on it. Since I don't know all the stuff that Howard knows (but then, who does?!), I had to play to my own strengths, so I'm glad you like the setting.

Hey I like this. Not your usual strangehorizons take on things, which is mostly fantasy or the strangeness 'out there', but a serious look at the strangeness within us.
Whats more the end sequences is quite scary, and gripping, giving the reader real concern that an innocent man might be shot in passing.
