My artwork tends to echo the things that fascinated me the most as a child. As soon as I was old enough to read, I was constantly searching out Science Fiction and Fantasy books, both for the stories and the art. I had great fun visiting these worlds in my mind, and that, combined with my love of drawing and painting, led to the work I do today. I get a real kick out of thinking that someday another child might look into my images and visit those same worlds I started visiting so long ago.

It seems I am constantly hopping back and forth between traditional illustration, computer graphics, and photography . . . in fact what I enjoy most is combining the different mediums. Few of my pieces are done in any one style, but are usually a combination of whatever techniques I am experimenting with at the time.

You saw her for the first time at your front door, like she wanted to sell you something or convert you. She had light hair and dark eyes, and she was wearing fatigues, which was the only way you knew that your panicked prayers of the last few minutes had not come true. “Don’t freak out,” she said. “I’m you. From—uh, let’s just say from the future. Can I come inside?”
Time will not return to you as it was.

In this episode of Strange Horizons at 25, editor Kat Kourbeti talks to Naomi Kritzer about her non-linear writing journey, imagining positive futures, and how to deal with the world catching up to your near-future specfic.
