Elia Barceló (Elda, Alicante, 1957) began to write SF in 1981 and is considered to be one of the most important Spanish-language authors of SF. She has won the Ignotus and the UPC Prizes, and was awarded the Premio Gabriel in 2007, for a lifetime's achievement in the genre in Spain. Her novella Mil euros por tu vida (A Thousand Euros for Your Life) was made into the film Transfer by the German-Croatian director Damir Lukacevic. She has published twenty-seven books and over fifty short stories, and her work is translated into eighteen languages.
