John Rieder is Professor of English at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His book Colonialism and the Emergence of Science Fiction is published by Wesleyan, and recent essays can be found in Parabolas of Science Fiction eds. His current book project is on science fiction and the mass cultural genre system.
