Art

I was working in the field of multimedia animation and web design for over 12 years, but in early 2005 I decided to follow my true calling, and made the move to full-time illustration work. Focusing primarily on the genres of fantasy, science fiction, and horror art, I've done art for CCGs, board games, RPGs, book covers, CD covers, prints, and more. Currently, my most ambitious (and time consuming!) project is "The Gatesville Company," a comic book series which premiered July 2005 from Speakeasy Comics.

My influences include illustrators such as N. C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, Frank Frazetta, and Brom. My biggest single influence is probably Jim Steranko—as a comics artist of course, but mostly as a cover illustrator. Luckily, or maybe not, I don't seem to have ended up with a style that looks too much like any of my favorite artists. I'm trying for my own style, and I know that I'm learning something new on every single picture I complete.

Strange Horizons invites non-fiction submissions for our March 30 special issue on “Fungi in SFF.”
Once I’ve finished writing, I will fold this letter up and tuck it into the Tristram you kindly loaned me (may it be our Galeotto … ). I’ll knock on your door, at which point I will most likely encounter a puzzled maidservant, who will ask who in the world I am, and I will explain that I am returning a book you were kind enough to bestow on me (generous creature that you are and clearly down-on-their-luck weatherworn would-be poet that I am).
the trees were softening, their bark for the hungry to scrape and scrape and spread it on whatever bread they could beg or bake
i must warn you before all else / before you poke and prod
Paul Kincaid and Dawn Macdonald join Dan Hartland to discuss style.
