Strange Horizons Gallery Presents...

Robert Wollard

Robert Wollard is a visual artist, a painter, who in the mid-nineties undertook the special photographic project on view here. These images have been exhibited at Markham Vineyards in St. Helena, California, and S.F. Black & White in San Francisco.

The images form visual fairy tales -- windows into imaginary worlds of mystery inhabited by fairies and dreamers who dwell just on the other side of the pictorial surface from our own world. They represent a personal synthesis of mythologies. While conceived in terms of a painter's understanding of color and space, they employ photographic imagery to refocus the process of seeing and reexamine the viewer's assumptions about what is real.
